ED,
You make a very important distinction between the Prohibitionists view/ definition of Sustainable Fisheries as Aquaculture, and the Outdoorsman's view/ definiation of Sustainable Fisheies....natural biomass harvested in a sustainable fashion.
Perhaps, in stead of using the term aquaculture, our community should use the phraase, HyperIntensive Fish Farming....or something to that effect.
.1 Look what teresterial hyperintensive farming has done in California:
.a stripped the land of natural sustainable nutrients
.b required that watersheds become destroyed, along with the entire natural ecosystem and flora and fauna of the regions to sustain this hyperactive activity.
.c changes the landscape of the entire community, forever preventing a native landscape and sustaining the endemic wildlife of the regions.
We all know about the problem areas with the Imperial Valley....turning a desert into a Tropic Type environment from its former state.....with humidity high, and increasing populations of humans that wish increased conditions which are NON Desert like.
Another not so talked about situation is the Vineyards all throughout Sonma and the Napa Valley. Ever take a ride to Yountville and the DFG office.....all Vineyards...ALL requiring additinal irrigation, at the expense of I believe the Russian River, and more. I understand much of that was non irrigatedl DAIRY Pastureland, Especially in the new corridor from Peteluma to Santa Rosa, for that industry, until this new wave wine industry took over.........yes, beautiful California Wine and vineyards, so much tourist activity and new money to the regions, but, at the espense of all the open range that is now Vineyard..and the water needed.
