Just got back in town from a great 3 days fishing expedition at the Frontier Charter & Lodge in Sitka, Alaska. I flew out early Friday morning, arriving in Sitka around 1pm and was greeted by Michelle, the lodge manager, at the gate. I have never been to Sitka before, so while driving through town, I asked Michelle if I can drop off my bag at the lodge then drive me back into town for a few hours. Sitka is a beautiful little town with high mountain ridges covered in heavy misty/cloud as a back drop. Every rivers and streams I walked by are loaded with pink salmon. What a great little city. ...

Set a new personal record solo today. Slow ride out in 0 vis. Early morning WSB limit, then trolled up a salmon limit to top the morning off. Thats a first for me, limits of those on the same day. WSB on both flylines and weighted. 36#, 46#, 51#. The larger fish just about spooled a Trinidad 30. That got a little sporty. Salmon still small and in the mud at the middle grounds. 200' of water. Al ...

I've been trying to get this done for a while. Fished Monterrey yesterday. Double early, pulled the hook on one. Another fish around 8 and the last one around 11. Frozen squid from Raleys worked fine. Weighed 35, 40 and 42.

A funny thing happened while I was gutting the fish near the harbor. Had all my pelican friends hanging around. The next thing I know, one jumped on my back as I was bent over.

My observation is that these fish are easier to fillet and better quality if they are iced down overnight to firm up the meat.

    Good fishing! ...

Fished out in front of the harbor from 6:30 till noon for one king on the mooch. Made a drift for halibut on along the beach for nothing. Jelly made trolling a no-go. Ran in to the fuel dock, thinking it would be a short day and as we were pulling in to the slip we decided that we ought to go take a look up at Mussel Rock. Backed out and headed up the line with a pretty good lump. Got to Mussel at 1:15 and got 2 fish right away. A little dry spell and then it light up pretty good. Got our last 5 fish in about 20 minutes. Most came on the "DeAngelis Hoochie Rig". Fished in 35 feet of water just south of the rocks. ...

Push off at 6...yes 6! Plan was to just take a peak 20-30 miles straight out to check on some rumers of tuna 20 miles. As soon as I get to the point I just couldn't follow unconfirmed rumors. Turned the bow of the south and headed toward the 451 "Dog bone". Got really worried as we cross over the 451 and the temp start to drop to 57 degrees and green. I figured I would just keep pushing through the slop until we hit warmer water or we couldn't take it anymore. ...

Ran solo to the middle grounds, wire in at first light to see if salmon grade picking up any here. NOPE, two in the box that just made it. So ran back to the ramp, offloaded them and headed for the beach. Looked to be a fleet of about 40 there so set up some drifts on the outside of the fleet. Saw several caught late morning, I didnt get bit till mid afternoon. Not wide open by any means but there are a few around. So two salmon barely at 24", two WSB 35# and 41#. Did see some larger WSB landed. Lots of jellies, weighted lines fouled easy. Flylines were the ticket today. ...

Just got back from a stint on the Cape and it was one of the best trips I can remember. I was invited to guide with my good friend Jim Sammons for four days, and then spend another six days shooting footage for his TV show.

Hmmmmmm....13 days at the Punta Colorada...yes please!!!!!

Part 1: Texas goes to Baja

The first part of our trip was spent guiding a big group from Texas with one other guy from Quebec. The Texans were all super cool and good anglers. Quebec...not so much.

Regardless, the Sea of Cortez treated us all well. A tough way to start a day at "work"...

I have been conspiring with Martin Fitts to get my old Buddy Bill Townsend on the salt for some salmon. The wx cooperated and Martin invited us aboard the Reel Crazy with his son in law Dave.

When we got the ramp it was high and dry, so we got things ready, bs'd and ate breakfast until the shit ramp at Noyo had enough water over it to launch Martin's gorgeous Bahia.

We went out of the jetties and swung north towards the fleet two miles to the north. When we got near the fleet we dropped in the gear and got bit right away. Unfortunately the first few got off, because the the line broke each time...WTF??? We kept moving and we began retying everything with 40#. The line quit breaking, and 95 year old Bill went after it... ...

Fished the last 2 days and got 2 limits on Friday and 3 limits today Saturday.
Fished with Mark Seaters both days along with a buddy who I grew up with on Saturday.
Both days same area 59/25 - 00/24, a bit of a run from Santa Cruz, but that was where there were good reports of fish.

Friday we slammed them in about an hours time with 4 keepers. They hit bait and PH kajikis. Our first doubled keepers of the year. Water was a bit snotty but fishable. Right place right time. I love being the dog and not the tree. ...

Had a week off from work, and the timing couldn't be better for sturgeon fishin.Moon phase and tides were perfect for my week off and its one of the best years Ive ever witness in my life. With all this fresh water running off the bite has been consistent, and they have been group up off the shelf of Benicia, strait out in front of the 9th st launch ramp in 60-80 feet of water.Just before the bottom and the start of the income was working best.Early in the week you could expect to land a fish, and my guess would be a fish to a fish and a half per boat. ...

Had Sean down here with me this morning for opener. Looked out front early then moved over to Mulligan area around 7.30. Multiple hookups with shakers ( kings and silvers) with keepers mixed in about every 4th fish. Nice looking early season fish, 10 - 16# class. Hoochie flasher, 120' down to right up on top. Great opener, done at 10 AM. ...
