What a great trip! We found out that there were several cancellations on Thursday night, packed and left early Friday morning to take advantage of a very light load trip. It was like a private charter. There were only 16 fishing and many did not do much of it. The handful of us that did fish constantly had a great time. Javier's food was fantastic as usual and the crew really had it together this trip. After 4 trips on this boat, this was by far the best crew they have put together. ...

Dad (otobepelagic) and I travelled to the far reaches of the state for an initiation to big river steelheading. We did a lot of watching and learning, since we had only fished for salmon on the Smith and this was a whole new game.

Drift boat after drift boat filled with seasoned guides and expectant anglers marched past as we studied each oar stroke and every plunk of bait. ...

We ended with 2 bites but only managed a #55lb for the crew. We came in around 2:30pm when the wind really got back even with a big drift sock. The crew help me wash the boat, split the fish, then left for home around 3:30pm. While walking to my truck, I notice the wind had died down to flat seas. Ran back to the boat and back to the spot. I sent the first rod down, turn around to send the second rod down when the clicker on the first rod went off. ...

The Ocean treated us well today. Really, really well! The Chilipepper rockfish climbed on the gear, when we found them. It took a couple spots, but when we found them, the Chili's cooperated. I had the NOAA Squid scientist on board, we did a little drop in 800 feet in a spot I had never hit before and BAM! Fresh one! Two hangin'! The squid kept coming until we had enough. We headed into shallower water ands structure, and lit up the rockfish. ...

We departed on Nov 12th at 8:00 am on the Davis Boats 13 day aboard the Royal Polaris. This was a limited load trip with 21 anglers. I took Paige for her first trip to the Smith. We had wanted to go a few weeks ago, but lately my @#$%^& work has sucked, so this weekend was our only shot. I ditched worked, and Paige ditched school and we hit the water at 0800 on Thursday after some monster pancakes from the Hiouchi Cafe.

We acnhored up next to our fishing buddy Dale. It was RAINING...
Then the sun came out, and then moments later we saw the first of many rainbows.
